Stars From ‘The Sandlot’ Have Fun With A Man Wearing A ‘Sandlot’ T-Shirt Who Had No Idea Who They Were

If you’re a die-hard fan of “The Sandlot,” then this little bit of news is going to have you uttering, “You’re killin’ me, Smalls!”

Patrick Renna — who played the hilariously mouthy Hamilton “Ham” Porter in the film — posted a photo last Wednesday of himself with fellow “Sandlot” actor Tom Guiry and a man who was wearing a T-shirt featuring the movie’s iconic line: “You’re killing me, Smalls.”

But the funny thing was, the fan wearing the T-shirt didn’t even realize he was meeting two of the actual actors from the hit 1993 film. Guiry played Scott Smalls, the recipient of Renna’s famous line multiple times throughout the movie.

Renna wrote on Twitter: “Said nice shirt to this dude walking by us and he had no idea what we were talking about. Thought I would capture the moment.” Renna’s photo with the fan has received more than 47,000 retweets and fans were quick to weigh in with commentary about the encounter, most of them issuing direct quotes from the movie, like @L8kergyrl24:

Or @sabymaroncelli, who got a little more specific:

One fan even admitted that something similar happened to him when he ran into Victor DiMattia (Timmy Timmons) and Shane Obedzinski (Tommy “Repeat” Timmons) while wearing a shirt inspired by “The Sandlot.” @AmpFloyd wrote: “Same thing happened to me two weeks ago with Timmy and Tommy. They said, ‘nice shirt!’ I did a double take and got a pic.”

Of course, the best part about all of this — in addition to reminding everyone why they love “The Sandlot” — is that the stars kept a good sense of humor about it all.

Then again, perhaps it’s not that surprising from a crew that rides on the philosophy that “heroes get remembered, but legends never die.” Because they (and their film) are most certainly legends.
